There’s a new, half-million dollar fire truck on the way to Friendswood that will be paid for $6 at a time.

During their November meeting, Councilmembers unanimously approved the purchase of a 2019 Spartan 4-door, custom full-tilt, aluminum cab fire truck with a price of $579,153. It will be funded through the $6 donations that residents add to their utility bills every other month.

“This new engine replaces a 1997 fire truck that has served the Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department well, but it has reached the end of its useful life,” said FVFD Fire Chief Stan Kozlowski. “The new one is part of our 15-year equipment replacement plan.”

Fire engines take 10-12 months to build once they are ordered. The current engine will be in use until the new one arrives, then it will be auctioned.

“Friendswood has a long history of generous residents who make the $6 donation to the Fire/EMS departments on their utility bill,” said Mayor Mike Foreman. “Although some of the future expenses of EMS services will be recovered through a new billing system, we need everyone to continue to make their $6 donation. That buys the FVFD’s equipment so our firefighters and paramedics have the right tools when they respond to a resident’s emergency call.”
Once the new truck arrives, it will be placed at Kenneth Camp Fire Station 1.
