Friendswood Volunteer Fire Fighters participated in air consumption drills this past Saturday. These drills are intended to replicate conditions that are found on every fireground. This can include pulling a charged hose, dragging a rescue dummy, ladder climbs, and swinging tools, all while in full gear wearing an SCBA.
The overall outcome is to improve the SCBA wearer’s self-awareness of air consumption, as well as improve overall endurance and effectiveness. These drills are held monthly and encourage physical fitness, proper diet, and maintenance of good health.
I am extremely proud of every member of this department and their constant effort to refine their craft. These ladies and gentlemen are our neighbors who commit their time to keep us safe and fully capable when emergencies arise. Thank you to Kim and Drew Willis and Davide Secci for organizing this almost weekly training exercise. Keep up the great work, remember.... pain is only weakness leaving your body.
